About
STAR READERS
Don Stowell School is located in Southeast side of Merced.
Our students are the Stowell Stars.
OUR MISSION
Make our library inviting, homey, and well supplied to develop a sense of pride as readers in all students. Students are encouraged to act as a caring community where relationships with classmates and school staff is one that is trustworthy.
The LIBRARY
The library strives to be the hub of our campus. Daily check out take place throughout the day. These begin with a happy greeting and an inquiry about new titles. Students come in to enjoy new books, "too-much loved" books, conduct own library book searches, take AR tests, Sit and read on our comfortable new furniture, interact in bulletin board activities, build our "school community" puzzles, take part in lessons presented by Teacher Librarian, practice & present poetry, attend Book Club meetings, and receive tutoring sessions after school.
The Question is:
“How does the school library realize its full potential to transform American education?” Clearly, information and inquiry-based teaching and learning in the school library— supported by its technology and enhanced by literacy support—is not supplementary to 21st-century teaching; it is 21st-century teaching (Carol Gordon 2013).
